I
first really got interested in art and crafts when my attention was
drawn to a half-completed embroidery in a charity shop window. The
canvas came complete with the frame it was being worked
on,
and a batch of threads. Being a teenager with an eye for a bargain, I
bought the lot, and a life-long interest began. Despite my
being
useless with a paint brush, I found I could express myself with a
needle, and was soon creating original pieces.
This led to taking Art as my main subject at Teacher Training College.

After
college, I found teaching posts
very scarce, due to what now
seems a
minor economic down-turn. I took an admin post and contented
myself with part-time creativity.
For many years, in Surrey and in
London, I practiced as an embroideress
in
my spare time. Later, in Suffolk, I facilitated the art and craft
exhibitions of a community project for women, and helped set up a craft
co-operative.

I have
displayed work in
galleries in Surrey, Sussex,
Norfolk and Suffolk, and
held several one-woman exhibitions.
I am inspired by nature. I love
textures and shapes, and experimenting with mixed media. If there
is a way of combining polished stones with silk and encaustic art,
modelling clay, photography, driftwood and beads, I'll find it!

Now I
am an artist/craftswoman, a
writer, a housewife and mother, and a
retired psychotherapist. I have a Certificate in Education with
Credits (Art/Creative Embroidery main subject), a degree in Psychology,
a post-grad diploma in counselling, and a home full of my own art and
craftwork.
My life
has taken many twists and
turns, and I believe this is
reflected in my
work. There are some political statements there, some games played,
some emotional matters obliquely dealt with, and always a sense of
commitment to tactile detail and original design.
I also
provide 1 to1 tuition in
encaustic art, offering
people in my area a start in the basic techniques of this fascinating
art form which requires so little artistic ability, and can lead to
works that impress and amaze your friends and family.

Now, as
ever, my thanks go to my
husband, Dominic, and my son, Toby,
whose
patient assistance in the background has helped to make the Galleries
possible. Without Dominic and Toby, my life and this site
would be very much the poorer.
I hope you enjoy looking round the site, and are tempted to buy!
